00-con-106.AHHHHH!!! Incredibly rare pre-War cavalry officer sabre and brass, heavily engraved scabbard with traces of rich gilt, inscribed on reverse: Presented to Capt. F.W. Coeler, by the Jaeger Comp., N. Orleans, Jan. 1st, 1855" (Which became company I, 22nd. Louisiana Infantry,C.S.A.) Produced by Hyde and Goodrich (which ultimately became Thomas Griswold & Co. in 1861), with 95% original leather grip and full wire wrap! Blade itself is a Solingen import type with gold inlayed etched panels—a major premium in its day! Research is in-progress on this fella—so far, we have found Frederick Wilhelm Coehler’s obituary in an index in the New Orleans library (he died in 1872 at age 49), and more is coming! An amazing sword, and about as rare as you will ever see offered ANYWHERE!
